Loire Valley, your boating holidays from Châtillon-sur-Loire
Chatillon-sur-Loire is 150 km from Paris and 7 km from Briare. Its name comes from "Castillo", built in the early tenth century fortress on the hill where now stands the church of Saint-Maurice. Marked by the wars of religion, you will find in the city a Protestant cemetery and a Benedictine building of the twelfth century, included in the present Protestant church.
The feudal era has also left traces through the ruins of Chateau Gaillard and the medieval district of the Upper Town.
More recently, in 2000, Châtillon-sur-Loire entered the Natura network Loire Valley Loiret, a special protection area. The 70 hectares of the island of Ousson are particularly well preserved.
On the canal, Lock Mantelot and attic are a pleasant experience. At random from your cruise, you will also see the foundations of the suspension bridge (built in 1931, destroyed in 1940, rebuilt in 1951).
